New Bishop for NECA

Wednesday, May 4 was a joyous day for the people of St Kitts and Nevis, as a son of Nevis, the Very Rev. Ernest Flemming, Dean of the Cathedral of St John the Divine in Antigua, was consecrated Bishop of the Northeastern Caribbean and Aruba (NECA).

The Chief Consecrator at the Service in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine was the Most Rev. Howard Gregory, Archbishop of the West Indies, who was assisted by several Bishops of the Province. Preacher was The Rev. Dr. Michael Clarke, Principal of Codrington College, Barbados. The Archbishop was accompanied to Antigua by Mrs. Gregory and The Rev. Michael Elliott, who served as his Chaplain.

Bishop Flemming was trained at Codrington College and holds the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology from the University of the West Indies. He was ordained a Deacon in 1985. A former Chairman of the Nevis Christian Council, he was appointed a Canon of the Cathedral in 2010.

Bishop Flemming was elected the 13th Bishop of NECA, which comprises 12 islands, in succession to Bishop Leroy Brooks, on 14 January. Following his consecration, he was enthroned in the Cathedral on May 6. Bishop Flemming and his wife Beverley, have been married for 32 years and they have two children, Joanne and Al.
