The Diocese of Jamaica & The Cayman Islands has launched a Hurricane Irma Relief Fund, to assist the recovery effort in the Diocese of the North East Caribbean & Aruba and the Diocese of the Bahamas & Turks and Caicos Islands following widespread devastation in the wake of one of the most dangerous North Atlantic storms. hurricane
In a Letter to Clergy and Church Workers in the Diocese, Bishop of Kingston, The Rt. Rev. Robert Thompson, who has been serving as Canonical Administrator in the absence of Diocesan Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Howard Gregory, who is on vacation, urged churches across the Diocese to provide tangible assistance in what is expected to be “a long and challenging process of recovery.”
A special collection is to be taken on Sunday, October 1; and these funds will be presented to the Bishops of the affected Dioceses at Provincial meetings to be held at the end of October.
In the meantime, Bishop Thompson has written to Bishop Laish Boyd – Diocese of The Bahamas & Turks and Caicos Islands; and Bishop Errol Brooks – Diocese of North East Caribbean and Aruba (NECA), extending solidarity and prayers for the recovery process.
Affected territories in NECA include Anguilla, Barbuda, St. Maarten/St. Martin, St. Barts, Saba and St. Eustatius.
